Characteristics

Advantages
Advantages of Alfalfa Pellets
1. Lower transport price: They are three times more compressed than bales.
A lorry could transport:
700 bales of 22 kg each = 15,4 ton
26 round bales of 500 kg each = 13 Ton
750 sacks of Alfalfa Pellets of 40 kg each = 30 ton
Even the Alfalfa Pellets can be transported in bulk.
2. Lower capacity required for storage, for having more weight for each volume item.
3. Solid nutritional quality, with a high nutrition value, keeping a good leaf condition and avoiding its losses.
4. Greater efficiency in the rationing.. It is possible to control an animal supplying and consumption.
5. It can be supplied with other solid supplement.
6. Greater preservation efficiency and quantity. The storage is more hygienic, it keeps the quality and minimizes the losses.
7. Low losses as regards round bales (more than 20%), bales (aprox. 13%) and hay. The use of pellets reaches more than 95% and there aren't any losses as in the case of hay (urine, excrement, etc.)
8. More quality. Losses associated to leaf fall are eliminated, as when using bales and round bales, grass is lost and leaves fall, which is where proteins are found (leaf: 24% CP, stem: 10% CP).
